ASU&#8217;s Applied Regional Economic Action 48 (AREA 48) refers to Arizona&#8217;s numerical position as the 48th state admitted to the union,  is designed to be an experimental model for developing, educating and supporting early-stage innovators. AREA48 includes offering a new type of physical place with a mixed format for innovation learning, training, creation, testing and prototyping.</p>

The 2013 conference will take place July 26-28 in Philadelphia and will highlight the Democratic workplaces, such as worker-owned cooperatives that are growing in many ways as a viable alternative to a society that lacks meaningful humanizing jobs and democracy in everyday life. Award winners will join the Schwab Foundation’s community of the world’s most accomplished social entrepreneurs and will benefit from media exposure, pro bono services from the Forum’s Partners, peer-to-peer mentoring and interaction with other social entrepreneurs in network, as well as gain access to top business and political leaders through participation in World Economic Forum meetings. To qualify, the social enterprise must meet the following criteria:<br />
· Can be a for-profit or non-profit, but must exhibit a sustainable business model<br />
· Should have at least 4-5 years of operations at the time of application (Pilot projects will not be considered.)<br />
· Must be able to demonstrate positive and tangible impact on low-income or underserved populations<br />
· The nominee must be the Founder or Chief Executive Officer of a social enterprise at the time of the application.<br />
